The Kenya Railways Retirement Pension Scheme is set to receive Ksh1.2 billion as settlement for a piece of their land that was hived off for the Nairobi Expressway and the Green Park bus terminus.
National Land Commission (NLC) will on March 5, 2021, start the payment as compensation for part of the Nairobi Railways Club land sliced off for the two multi-billion projects.
NLC Chairperson Gershom Otachi told the Senate Committee of Labour and Social Welfare that the commission had ratified plans to compensate the pensioners.
"We have been on this matter for some time now but we are happy that we are making some progress. As we have agreed, by tomorrow we expect that NLC will start to pay Ksh1.2 billion," Otachi stated.

Senate committee Chairperson, Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja urged the pensioners to work in tandem with the commission to ensure they are compensated properly.
"Instead of casting aspersions at the process, work with this commission to ensure you get what is yours," Sakaja remarked.
Retirement Benefits Authority (RBA) Chairperson Nzomo Mutuku assured the commission that they had conducted a thorough audit on the beneficiaries of the settlement.
The National Treasury set aside Ksh5 billion solely for the acquisition of the Nairobi Railways Club. This is to allow for the expansion of Uhuru Highway and the construction of the Green Park bus terminus.
The Senate Labour committee revealed that the money had already been transferred to NLC to facilitate compensations.
The Ksh59 billion Nairobi Expressway project is set to decongest traffic in the city.
