The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has announced a short-term online auction of vehicles.

In the notice, KRA indicated that the bidding process will be closed on Thursday, April 11.

Some of the cars on auction include a used Suzuki Alto, a used Mazda Demio, a used Xtrail, a used Nissan Serena, a Corolla Fielder, and a used Honda Freed.

Others include Mazda Familia and Toyota LandCruiser. The online bidding allows bidders to view the amount placed so far on each of the listed cars at https://ibid.kra.go.ke/products?start=10

How to Bid

According to KRA, to participate in the bidding one is required to register for a wallet account and maintain it. 

"Sufficient funds must be loaded to your wallet account before placing a bid on any item in the auction. 25% of your bid amount will be locked in your deposit which is in the wallet account, and that this deposit will be deducted from your wallet account and paid to the seller's bank account if you win the item," KRA explained.

"This locked deposit will be released from your wallet account if you are outbid by another bidder or if the auction is cancelled by the KRA. A successful bidder will receive their payment notifications via email immediately after the auction has been closed," KRA added.

At the end of the auction, the deposit amount (25% of the bid amount) shall be debited from the eWallet. The successful bidder shall make a payment of the balance (75% of the Bid price) within 48 Hours.

The successful bidder has three (3) days from the end of the auction to collect the item bided for or shall be liable to pay the warehouse rent and any other charges with effect from the end of the auction to the date of removal.

Bidders are free to bid for more than one item during the bidding window. A bidder may revise their bid upwards however sufficient amount to reserve the item must be available in the wallet.

For claiming items, the winner shall present a valid copy of the paid assessment and bank receipt (optional in case of e-payment), and provide proper identification with the notarized letter such as an International passport, Driver's license, Voter's card, or National ID.
