  • DP William Ruto and Rachel Ruto's daughter, June Ruto wed Dr Alexander Ezenagu this week on Thursday in Karen.

Deputy President William Ruto left guests at his daughter's wedding in stitches after explaining why it was difficult for him to give her away to a Nigerian man.

The DP noted that any parent has a had time letting go of their daughter but the situation is even tougher when the groom is a Nigerian and especially from the Igbo people.

Dr. Ruto joked that it was difficult to give away his daughter June Ruto to a Nigerian due to his past experiences with them.

He narrated the story of Anthony Chinedu, a man who hit Kenyan headlines after refusing to embark from a plane in Lagos, Nigeria when he was deported from Kenya.

“It is both an exciting and anxious moment. It is not easy as a parent to give away your daughter. It is much more difficult if you are giving away your daughter to Nigerians. It is much more difficult when you are giving your daughter to Ibos (people living chiefly in southeastern Nigeria who speaks Igbo),” the DP said.

“When I first met Alex I told him a story of a guy called Chinedu who gave us a lot of trouble and I was told that man was an Igbo. So you can understand…this Chinedu fellow gave us so much trouble that we deported him to Nigeria and when we deported him he refused to get out of the aeroplane in Lagos for two days. Even after leaving him there, we found him in Kenya," he added leaving the crowd in stitches.

Dr. Ruto and his wife Mama Rachel Ruto walked their daughter June Ruto down the aisle on Thursday in Karen, Nairobi County as she tied the knot with her Nigerian fiancee Dr. Alexander Ezenagu.

Dr. Alexander Ezenagu is an Assistant Professor at the College of Law at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), Qatar.
