Oscar Award-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o has announced a break up with her South African lover Selema Masekela after one year.
In a lengthy post on her Instagram account on Thursday, October 20, Lupita said she is going separate with someone she no longer trusts.
“At this moment, it is necessary for me to share a personal truth and publicly dissociate myself from someone I can no longer trust. I find myself in a season of heartbreak because of a love suddenly and devastatingly extinguished by deception,” said Lupita.
The actress went on to describe her emotional state saying she was tempted to go into shadows and hide and reemerge when she felt strong enough.
“But I am reminded that the magnitude of the pain I am feeling is equal to the measure of my capacity for love. And so, I am choosing to face the pain, cultivating the courage to meet my life exactly as it is, and trusting that this too shall pass,” she added.
The 40-year-old concluded her post by saying she would learn from the wisdom that comes from the break up with Selema.
“The promise, they say, is that a tender heart is what gives birth to fearlessness. I hope it's true... I share this to keep it 700, and hoping that the knowledge of my experience might be useful to someone else out there experiencing the grip of heartbreak who is poised to try and escape from the pain and miss out on the wisdom that comes from it. Let's face our pain so we don't spread it,” Lupita stated.
The celebrated actress has also removed all photos with her now ex-boyfriend from her social media platforms.
Lupita and Selema began dating in 2022 after the actress posted their photos on social media and introduced him as her boyfriend.
