Nairobi county assembly speaker Benson Mutura was on Friday, December 18 officially sworn in as the acting Nairobi Governor.

Mutura who is a former Makadara Member of Parliament was sworn in following the impeachment of Mike Sonko on Thursday night.

Four months ago, Mutura was appointed as the new Nairobi County Assembly Speaker having attained more than the required two-thirds majority votes.

Mutura's candidature was backed by both the Jubilee Party and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) after his predecessor Beatrice Elachi exited the seat.

Elachi ended her term as first woman speaker of the capital’s assembly, closing a chaotic chapter marred by supremacy battles with suspended clerk Jacob Ngwele and Governor Mike Sonko.

Education

Between 1986-1990 Mutura attended Dagoretti High School where he sat for his KCSE and joined Graffin College the following year where he earned a certificate in Computer Service.

He Mutura joined Kenya Polytechnic (current Technical University of Kenya) in 1993 and acquired a Diploma in Procurement and Supplies.

Mutura got admitted at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology from 2006-2010 and studied for a Bachelor of Science in Governance and Leadership.

The acting governor was one of the councillors who became an MP after the March 4, 2013, General Election.
