Celebrated media personality and social media influencer Betty Kyalo 'eats life with a big spoon'. She is never shy of splashing a few millions just to ensure her comfort.
In Kenya, a dream car for many, ends up to be just a dream. However, for celebrities and wealthy individuals, a car is simply a luxury and its purchase is just a pinch.
Betty is a car lover and in a past interview with a local daily, the former KTN News anchor revealed that she buys a car simply by just how she will look in it.
“I want a sassy and a sexy car because I want to look good in it. To me it’s not just about being able to drive from point A to point B but doing it passionately,” she was quoted as saying.
She added that her car needs to be as beautiful as herself.
“I know I am a head-turner so I also want a car that’s a head-turner,” she remarked.
The former Cheki Car Awards judge also revealed that history and heritage are among other factors she looks for in her ideal car.
“Car companies that have come from so far and you can actually see the process of growth from the first car to what they are right now. They have a story about how they started and you can trust the car,” Betty said.
After debuting into the media industry as a news anchor, Betty first drove a Subaru Impreza.
She would later upgrade to a BMW 320i whose price ranges between Ksh2 million and Ksh5 Million depending on the year of manufacture.
Betty felt the need to switch from a Subaru due to the stigma associated with them at the time.
Subaru owners are presumed to be rogue drivers and speed junkies by most Kenyans. The cars have also been associated with a lot of noise which is uncomfortable for some people.
During a candid interview in September 2020, Betty revealed that buying the BMW 320i was her worst financial decision.
"I didn't really need to buy a BMW. The Subaru was working quite well. It is just a bit noisy," she admitted.
She later moved up to acquire a 2015 BMW X6 estimated to be worth Ksh9 million.
In November 2017, she upgraded her status by acquiring a 2017 BMW XI. The car was custom designed and has front-drive along with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine.
German car manufacturer BMW is known to produce luxurious cars with high performance and stylish designs.
Early in 2017, she was, rumuored to be zooming around in a Meteor Gray Metallic 2016 Porsche Cayenne worth Ksh13 million, which was allegedly bestowed to her by incumbent Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho.
Betty also bought a 2017 Renault Megane sedan which costs $32,000 (approximately Ksh3.2 million) minus custom duty fees.
"That's a fine car. Innovative designs, sexy curves and lines, senses when you are coming and going, also assists in parking. Smooth on the road like vanilla ice cream, localised map, and voice control," she shared after buying the car.
In 2020, the media personality acquired a white 2019 Porsche Cayenne SUV days after she quit her anchor job at K24.
The car goes for $66,750 (Sh7.1 million), including the $1,050 (approximately Ksh100,500) destination charge.
“Gotta move differently if you want different! Another One is home! This time White,” she wrote on social media.
She also owns a Mercedes Benz which she has often shared images of on social media.
