Ian Waiguru is the eldest son of Kirinyaga County Governor Anne Waiguru. Despite the fame that accompanies his mother, the young man has managed to chart out a successful path for himself.

The 25-year-old is an entrepreneur and since the age of 18, he has appeared on television a number of times, where he shared his passion for business.

He is the proprietor and owner of an IT company called Something Inc.

While addressing the TEDX Youth Talks in 2015, Ian revealed that he ventured into business after his mother challenged him to make something out of his life because he had attained the legal age.

At the time, he was an ICT and Math A-level student at Brookhouse International School.

"What makes me different from other people in my age group is that I'm an entrepreneur.

"My mother approached me this summer and said, why don't you do something with your life, start your business, start your company and I thought to myself, I am student and I'm still young, I can't do this but she forced me into it anyway because she is my mother," he stated.

He revealed that he created the company in two months and challenged his friends to set goals for themselves and purpose to achieve them.

"The road to your dreams is a tunnel. Your goals are your flashlight in the tunnel, but most of the time you are holding your flashlight backward making you stand still and not make that half a step, in order to reach your destination," he said during the talks.

During a talk with students at the University of Nairobi in 2018, Governor Waiguru revealed that after daring Ian to stop watching TV and do something meaningful with his life, the young man began by organising an IT forum to which he did not invite her to speak.

Gradually, he grew it into a fully-fledged company, and according to reports, he has his own personal assistant.

The company is said to focus on software development and creative solutions.

Something Inc also houses two of Ian's other projects; Kadi and Lion Arts. Kila Kadi is a business card replacement app while Lion Arts is a creative writing and illustrative publishing venture.

Ian has been described by some as a person who lives his life whichever way he wants, and is not shy of splashing money to ensure his luxury.

In 2015, he raised eyebrows after a video of him driving an Aston Martin car surfaced online. The car was estimated to be worth between Ksh15 -Ksh20 million.

This did not sit well with Kenyans especially at a time when his mother was facing corruption charges for her alleged involvement in the Ksh791 million National Youth Service (NYS) scandal.

He later clarified the air, stating that the car belonged to his friend, however, expressed a desire to own such a car.

“Just to clear up something for people, no I do not own an Aston Martin, I have however driven one belonging to a good friend that let me have a go. So no, the car does not belong to me or anyone in my family. And the video was just a fun little post. Thank you. On a lighter note. I wish I did own one,” read his post.
