The Kenyatta family boasts a vast business empire cutting across various sectors of the economy, and little is known of the members' individual career paths.

However, based on previous media reports and public features, a few of the family's members' jobs and careers are known to the public.

In this segment, Nairobileo.co.ke looks at Muhoho Kenyatta, President Uhuru Kenyatta's last born son who despite keeping a low profile over the years, is known to have a passion and major interest in fashion design.

Mo as he is popularly referred to as by colleagues developed a sense and passion for fashion design at a young age.

And despite his family's vast wealth, he has managed to carve out a career path for himself.

He debuted into the fashion industry in 2013 at the Kenya Fashion Week which was held at Villa Rosa Kempinski during which he showcased his Nomadic Fashion Brand collections.

His first design was a pair of trousers from khanga material in 2011.

“I decided to get some pants made, some kikoi pants, but I saw some khanga material so I decided to make it out of that.

“My mum said it wasn’t a good idea as khanga was for women but I went out wearing them and people really liked them," he was quoted as saying by a local daily.

The 25-year-old launched Nomadic with the help of his partners Rudradeer (Rudra) Khanna, Wasim Manji, and Waruru Wachira, who dealt with accounts, marketing and production while he created the designs.

Their designs were well received by family and friends. During their first exhibition in July 2013, they sold 100 khanga trousers in a day at the price of Ksh2,000 each.

They diversified from trousers and began making harems and shorts as well. Their collection includes formal, casual and beach-wear outfits.

At the time, their collection was unisex, but they had a vision to also venture into making khanga dresses and swimwear.

He stated that he was determined to build the brand to a reputable company without the help of their parents.

“We want to do this ourselves. We want to try and build this ourselves. We wouldn’t want to get our parents too involved but we do take their advice and listen to it keenly,” he said.

In 2014, they also showcased their designs at the Origins of Africa Trade Expo.

They sold their clothing online and at stalls located at Village Market.

However, a spot check at the company's Facebook page indicated that Nomadic appears to have been inactive for some time now.
