As years progress, the Kenyan entertainment scene continues to grow and develop in various ways. In recent years, the country has had some of the best locally produced shows dominating the airwaves. 

Televisions shows like Citizen TV's Maria, Zora, Maisha Magic East's Selina, among others have brought about the emergence of talented Kenyan actors and actresses.

In this segment, Nairobileo.co.ke takes a look at the career of Robert Agengo, known as Fela in the Citizen TV drama series, Zora.

While most people struggle at an early age in figuring out what they want to do with their lives, Agengo wanted to be an actor from the jump. All through primary and high school, he was a very active actor.

He too like many actors, started off at the bottom. He played various roles on set books, was cast as an extra in a number of films before landing big roles in other films. If there’s one thing you can learn from him is that hard work and determination really pays off. 

Background

The Zora actor was born in Kibra on April 22, 1986. He attended Ayany Primary School between 1993 and 2000, from where he sat for his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams.

Agengo proceeded to Ngelani High School, where he attended between 2001 and 2004.

Career

He was involved in acting from a young age, and in the 90s, he featured in a play called Mistake, which aired on Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC). He was an active drama club member while in high school..

Agengo successfully auditioned for Jicho Four Productions, a company that specializes in travelling to different high schools to act on set books, immediately after high school.

He left Jicho Four in 2005 to pursue main stage acting at the Kenya National Theatre. He acted in a number of plays before leaping into the highly competitive film industry.

The Zora actor auditioned for a number of roles and only managed to lock down a few for the role of an extra. He was an extra in a number of Kenyan films including Shika Pata Potea, Crazy Kenyans and Makutano Junction.

Agengo made his international debut when he featured in the comedy Taking The Flak on BBC. He played the role of a rebel leader in the film.

 In 2010, he landed a role in a film called Lost in Africa. Soon after this, he landed a role in what was then a prominent Kenyan series called Mali.

 In 2013, he also got a significant role in the series Kona. He also got a role in Netflix's The Boy who Harnessed The Wind.

Agengo also featured on Maisha Magic East's Sue Na Jonnie. He was also in Scandals and Warembo Salon.

In 2020, he got the opportunity to act as Pablo in the thriller 40 Sticks which was streamed worldwide by Netflix.

He also played a role in the play The Perfect Wedding, a humorous play where he plays the best man to the groom and has to step in to save the groom when he finds himself in a compromising situation on his wedding day.

Agengo plays Fela on Citizen TV drama series, Zora.

Awards

His amazing talent has earned him awards in the course of his career. For the role of Pablo in 40 sticks, Agengo won 2 awards. They are;

Kisima Music Film Award for Best Actor in a leading role.

Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actor in A Leading Role.
