Politics is a game of luck in the sense that you do your best in terms of campaign and hope that the electorate with rally behind you and make you their next leader. 

While there are politicians who are always lucky, or who have mastered the art of winning, there are some who had to wait for over 20 years before securing their first win. 

In this article, we outline how Voi Member of Parliament Khamisi Chome and Uasin Gishu Governor waited for over 20 years before securing their first win in elections. 

Khamisi Chome

The 61-year-old politician is a true definition of patience pays. He made his political debut in 1997 when he unsuccessfully vied for the parliamentary seat on a KANU ticket.

Determined to achieve his goal of being an MP, he tried again in 2002, this time on a NARC party ticket, but he was unsuccessful. 

In 2007, he made another try, this time using the ODM party ticket, but he was again unlucky.

Having failed thrice, one would have expected him to give up, but he threw he gave it another stab in 2013, this time using the TNA party ticket, but the outcome was still the same.

in 2017, he did not vie due to the death of his wife. However, he vied in 2022 on a Wiper party ticket and emerged victorious with 9, 418 votes.

Jonathan Bii alias Koti Moja 

Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii alias Koti Moja also made his political debut in 1997 when he vied for the Eldoret North parliamentary seat. He, was, however, trounced by William Ruto. 

In the subsequent polls, Bii vied again, but he was unable to defeat Ruto. Ahead of the 2017 general election, electoral boundaries were reviewed and the Eldoret North constituency was divided into Turbo and Soi.

Bii contested the Soi parliamentary seat but was trounced by Jubilee Party's Caleb Kositany.

In the 2022 general election, Biid decided to go for the Uasin Gishu gubernatorial seat on a UDA party ticket and emerged successful, beating big names likes Kositany, Zedekiah Bundotich alias Buzeki, Julius Bitok, and Sarah Serem among others.
