'An apple doesn't fall far from the tree', is the true definition of traits exhibited by children of some of the richest individuals in the country.

Despite swimming in richness, some have managed to set themselves apart with their ventures which have picked up pace.

The well-paying ventures are helping the children of Kenya super-rich define their success without being tied to family empires.

Alyana and Alyssa Popat are not widely known in the country despite their deep investments. The two are the daughters of business mogul Adil Popat.

Their father is a known figure with a range of investments in the country. Adil is the founder and Chief Executive of Simba Corp Hospitality- which manages the Ole Mara Kempinski in the Maasai Mara game reserve and the prestigious Villa Rosa Kempinski in Nairobi.

But Alyana and Alyssa have managed to set their path apart by launching the Nairobi Street Kitchen in Westlands.

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta was among the high-profile guests who have visited the Nairobi Street Kitchen.

"Returning home as an architecture graduate (Alyssa), I was looking for something to do and was thrown into the deep end at the age of 23 with an incomplete design project and spent four years. I thought I knew everything, but after the first meeting, I went home and broke down.

"I suddenly realized how serious this project was. I decided to learn everything from plumbing to building construction to repairing and modifying containers and vehicles right away. Without doing everything myself, I wouldn’t have this awe of people in this industry," Alyssa recalled.

Kimoi is the son of former Baringo Senator Gideon Moi. Despite coming from a well-off family, Kimoi crafted his niche and built his empire.

He ventured into large-scale potato farming. The field has earned him a reputation in the country's agricultural sector.

Having studied Civil engineering at the University of Exeter, United Kingdom, Kimoi deviated from the norm and ditched the famed career to join the agricultural sector.

Kimoi is the current director of Agrico East Africa Company- one of the top seed companies in Kenya.
