In 2013, Richard Branson launched the “Mahali Mzuri” resort in Maasai Mara, in an event that was attended by President Uhuru Kenyatta, and then Tourism Cabinet Secretary Phyllis Kandie.

When you think Maasai Mara, what comes to mind is the diversity of wildlife at the game reserve, and one of the seven wonders of the world, the wildebeest migration.

A trip to the reserve is not worth it if you are not able to secure the right resort to witness it all, and British Billionaire and Virgin Group Limited founder Richard Branson owns just the place.

In March 2021, Forbes Magazine ranked the entrepreneur, adventurer, author, and philanthropist at a networth of $4.3 billion (Ksh463 billion).

He has often professed his love for Kenya, and especially Maasai Mara. Due to his love for the region and surrounding communities, Branson was installed as a Maasai community elder in December 2007.

In 2013, he launched the “Mahali Mzuri” resort in Maasai Mara, in an event that was attended by President Uhuru Kenyatta, and then Tourism Cabinet Secretary Phyllis Kandie.

“It was an honour and so much fun to participate in the ceremony. It’s a fantastic way to celebrate the official opening of Mahali Mzuri and I’m thrilled that so many of the local community have made it here today to observe and take part in what was a beautifully traditional and fitting way of launching our new safari camp,” Branson said during the launch.

Mahali Mzuri is located within the private Olare Motorogi Conservancy in the wider Maasai Mara ecosystem and consists of 12 sleeper tents named after the 12 Maasai tribes in the conservancy.

The resort boasts a 40-foot infinity pool and a spa. Patrons are treated to two daily wildlife-viewing drives into the bush, and safari walks.

The resort rests above an acacia-dotted valley, offering tourists a perfect view of the numerous and various animals in the surroundings.

A night at the establishment costs $590 per tent/night.
