The government is planning to enact strict measures in regards to curbing the spread of Covid-19 in entertainment joints.
This comes as bars and clubs continue to be a major weak link in the fight against the virus.
In the new proposed measures, there are plans to restrict the entry of people in clubs and bars. Entertainment joint owners will now be required to hire Covid-19 liaison officers.
The officers will act as a link to ensure the entertainment joints are not centers for spreading the virus.
First on the agenda is to restrict the number of people accessing clubs and bars. Reports indicate that most entertainment spots do not observe social distancing.
The officers will also be tasked with reporting any suspected case of Covid-19 either among the staff or revelers in the regulations that are yet to be gazetted.
"Every establishment shall appoint and adequately train a Covid-19 liaison officer. The liaison officer shall be the point of contact with the Ministry of Health, Sub County Liquor Licensing Committee, and other sector players keep abreast of the emerging health, safety, and hygiene information and preventive measures related to Covid-19," read part of the regulations.
Designated waiting and collection areas for goods and customers will be required to be spacious to contain the spread of Covid-19.
It is worth mentioning that clubs are operating normally without stringent measures to curb the spread of the virus.
Police have occasionally conducted a raid on various clubs in Nairobi but the move has not paid off as required.
