Nairobi is arguably one of the most beautiful and developed cities in Africa. What makes it stand out are the uniquely designed buildings that dominate its skyline.
From Britam towers in Upper Hill, Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC) to Two Rivers Mall, most of these buildings have iconic features that set them apart and make them a joy to behold.
But who are the brains behind these buildings? In this article, Nairobi Leo focuses on Sasha Mutai, a flamboyant Quantity Surveyor who has been involved in the development of some of Nairobi's iconic buildings.

According to information on his LinkedIn page, Sasha is an "Experienced Quantity Surveyor with a demonstrated history of working in the construction industry. Skilled in negotiation, budgeting, business planning, contract administration and feasibility studies. Also, a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators."
Sasha is an alumnus of the University of Nairobi and Strathmore. Speaking during a past interview with Business Daily, Sasha noted that he started his Quantity Surveying career at Armstrong and Duncan, but later left and started his company.
After a few years of flying solo, he teamed up with four other surveyors under YMR Quantity Surveying Firm.
At the firm, they undertook several projects across the city with Two Rivers Mall being one of their creations.

According to Sasha, they were involved in the development of all malls in the country apart from Village Market.
"We have done all the shopping malls in Kenya except Village Market. We are currently doing Two Rivers, which is going to shake and shape this region.
"You know, most projects have been fun to do – like the Windsor Park which I did through my own firm back in the day... Panafric Insurance building…..But I think Two Rivers is a unique project by its sheer scale and ambition and also because it’s a Kenyan investment," he told Business Daily during an interview in 2015.
In addition to being a successful Quantity Surveyor, Sasha is also a renowned Rugby administrator who at one time served as the Vice Chair of the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU). In 2019, he contested the KRU chairman position but lost to Oduor Gangla.
Outside work, Sasha is known to be a lover of life. He believes in working hard and partying equally as hard. He owns a fleet of cars, a lavish house in Lavington and enjoys cigars and fine whisky.
"...I own a Jaguar XJ, a Porsche, and a Mercedes S-Class. I built my house in Lavington when I was 29. Cash money – is something I’m proud of... The Jaguar is a driver’s car, the Mercedes is a car to be driven... I always wanted to own a Merc. The Porsche is just a lovely ride," he told the publication.
Even though he has achieved a lot so far, Sasha does not consider himself as successful since he believes there is something new to learn every other day that can take him to the next level
