Irene Njoki: CS Macharia’s PA Who Beat Ruto Strongman Kimani Ngunjiri

Former MP Kimani Ngunjiri lost his bid for re-election in Bahati Constituency in Nakuru County, as Irene Njoki floored the vocal politician.

Njoki, a new entrant in an elective post, ran on a Jubilee ticket before she floored the veteran politician who ran on a UDA ticket.

She garnered 34,308 votes with Ngunjiri coming in second with 26,809 votes.

Njoki was born in 1975 in Bahati, Nakuru County. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in marketing from Africa Nazarene University and a Masters one in Strategic Planning from Daystar University.

She has worked both in the private and public sectors. In the private sector, Njoki worked as an assistant to the marketing manager of the New Stanley Hotel.

She later moved to work as an assistant to the managing director of Kensta Group, a print, and packaging company.

From 2005, the budding politician served as the personal executive assistant to the managing director of CBA Bank Kenya (now NCBA) before moving to the public service.

She started working for the government in 2013 where she served as the personal assistant to the then Cabinet Secretary for Health James Macharia.

Before venturing into politics, she was a personal assistant to CS Macharia who had moved to the Ministry of Transport.

Njoki ran a vigorous campaign in Bahati in the just concluded elections where she was very vocal as she featured among speakers in Azimio rallies attended by Azimio leader Raila Odinga in Nakuru.

She ran various social welfare programmes in her constituency that were pivotal in her resounding victory over Ngunjiri who had won the seat twice.
