Senate Minority Leader James Orengo has hit out at IEBC over the controversial ‘Burning Bridges Initiative’ tweet.

Speaking on Thursday, Orengo accused IEBC of partisanism in the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) process.

The Siaya senator faulted the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) over tweet on Wednesday.

“The tweet about BBI by the IEBC was more than a simple Freudian Slip. It was a glaring exposition of the mindset of the Commission,” Mr Orengo said.

He added: “As we get in the middle of the referendum process IEBC must undergo constant scrutiny. It was not without significance that I described as a criminal enterprise some time back. I have not changed my views an iota”.

After IEBC posted the tweet, the electoral agency pulled it down following outrage from Kenyans.

However, the election body through chair Wafula Chebukati apologized, saying the message did not reflect the position of the Commission.

The phrase “Burning Bridges Initiative” has been used by Deputy President Wiliam Ruto allies who have opposed sections of the initiative.

According to Ruto camp, the referendum should have multiple questions while the President Uhuru team wants a two-question referendum.
