Veteran Nation Media Group journalist Emmanuel Juma has left the media outlet effective January 1st, 2021.
In a communication seen by Nairobi Leo, Juma will no longer serve as the group’s managing editor for the Nation Broadcasting Division
His position has been taken by consulting editor Joseph Warungu on an interim basis. The communication, however, did not state the specific reason why Juma is exiting the media station.
Juma is among the seasoned journalists in the country with over 15 years of experience. He began his career at KTN before moving to NTV in 2005 where he became popular with the political humor segment dubbed Bull's Eye.
Like other media station, Nation Media Group has recently carried out large scale retrenchment as profit margins continue to diminish.
The last lay-off was announced on July 3rd July 2020 where the giant media house began digitizing its operations and develop new advertising revenue streams as the media business shifts to the digital space to survive the effects of COVID-19.
NMG Group CEO Stephen Gitagama noted the layoffs were due to unavoidable circumstances. Staff members who survived the retrenchment were however subjected to salary cuts that were expected to last until December 31st, 2020.
