Cardinal John Njue has resigned as the archbishop of Nairobi Diocese .

According to Pope Francis press service, Cardinal Njue proffered his resignation which was accepted by Pope Francis.

Njue has served in the position since 2007. He will retain the title of Cardinal.

The Cardinal tendered in his resignation after he attained the mandatory retirement age for Bishops which is 75 years.

In his place, Pope Francis appointed Auxiliary Bishop David Kamau as Apostolic Administrator of the Nairobi Diocese.
