The High Court has suspended the Nairobi Gubernatorial by-elections.

On Monday, January 4 2021, the court made the ruling after impeached Governor Mike Sonko filed a suit.

The vote which was set for February 18 was deferred pending the determination of the case challenging Sonko's impeachment.

Sonko moved to court challenging the decision by the Senate to uphold his impeachment by the Nairobi County Assembly.

In the suit, the former governor sought the court to freeze the swearing-in exercise of the County Assembly speaker.
