National Assembly Majority Leader Amos Kimunya has claimed Senate Majority Whip Irungu Kang’ata was pushed by the TangaTanga team to write the controversial BBI letter to President Uhuru Kenyatta. 

According to Kimunya, the Murang’s senator has various ways of reaching out to President Uhuru Kenyatta rather than writing a letter. 

Speaking on Tuesday, Kimunya noted that Irungu might have leaked the letter after being pushed by nominated Senator Issac Mwaura and Kandara MP Alice Wahome. 

The two leaders allied to Deputy President William Ruto have emerged to be President Uhuru’s biggest critics.

Kimunya added that Irungu’s conduct might be due to inexperience and also a publicity stand.

“…partly inexperienced, partly wanting to attract attention and I see probably pressure from his colleagues… Isaac Mwaura is one of his bosom buddies, Alice Wahome was getting a lot of attention after her statement and perhaps he (Kang’ata) thought he should also do something,” said Kimunya.

Kimunya maintained that a sitting Head of State should be advised in person and not in public.

“My experience in government has taught me that you never stand in public or even in the floor of the House and say ‘I would want to tell the President the following’… you should go and tell him in person. I see that mistake in most politicians,” added Kimunya. 

The Kipipiri lawmaker further stated that Kang’ata could have channelled his views to the President through the BBI National Secretariat led by Dennis Waweru and Junet Mohamed.
