Through his lawyer Harrison Kinyanjui, Sonko alleged that President Uhuru Kenyatta’s elder sister Christina Pratt Kenyatta, reached out to him before his impeachment requesting him to appoint Ms Jane Weru as his deputy.

Ex-Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Thursday dragged the name of the first family to his current woes, claiming that some members of the family were interested in handpicking a deputy governor for him.

Through his lawyer Harrison Kinyanjui, Sonko alleged that President Uhuru Kenyatta’s elder sister Christina Pratt Kenyatta, reached out to him before his impeachment requesting him to appoint Ms Jane Weru as his deputy.

“Ms Weru is the person recommended by Christine Pratt Kenyatta to Mr Sonko to assume the role and capacity of the Nairobi County Governor immediately prior to unlawful and sham impeachment of the cross petitioner by reason of which she is a relevant party,” read in part the affidavit,” Sonko said in a sworn affidavit by his lawyer Mr Kinyanjui.

Sonko proceeded to unleash a phone recording where a female voice was heard telling the ex-governor that the Head of State would reach out to him regarding consideration for appointment of Ms Weru as his deputy.

“Tell him (President Kenyatta) that I am the one who brought her and by that, he will remember. I told him that I brought her and recommended her to you,” said the female caller.

Responding to her, Sonko was heard saying he has no problem with the dealing as long as the boss (the President) is aware of the issue.

Meanwhile, Sonko lost hid bid to block the vetting of Anne Mwendwa as Nairobi deputy governor and also the recent cabinet reshuffle by acting Governor Bneson Mutura.
