  • Medical fraternity has accused the state of doing less to protect doctor.

The Kenya medical fraternity is once again mourning the death of a senior doctor.

The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) on Friday confirmed the death of Prof. Paul G. Kioy.

Before his death, Kioy was serving as a neurologist. According to KMPDU, Key served patients with dignity throughout his career.

"The medical profession is mourning Prof. Paul G. Kioy who succumbed to COVID-19 complications. He was a Neurologist who served his patients with diligence, great teacher & mentor to many doctors in the country. Heartfelt condolences to the family & friends," KMPDU said in a statement.

The organization further used the opportunity to stress the importance of upholding medical workers' safety in the country.

Kioy adds to the growing number of medical health workers who have succumbed to the virus.

According to KMPDU, the government has not done enough to protect health workers.

Doctors have cited the lack of Personal Protective Equipment as the main reason behind increasing Covid-19 cases among doctors.
