The Wiper Democratic Movement party has nominated former Senator Johnson Muthama’s estranged wife Agnes Kavindu to fly its flag in the Machakos Senatorial by-election slated for March 18, 2021.

The nomination means that the former Senator who is the Chairman of the UDA party, will have to campaign against his ex-wife, once his party settles on a candidate for the seat.

Reports indicate that Wiper was first considering nominating one of late Senator Boniface Kabaka’s widows, but changed its mind and settled on Kavindu.

With Kenyan campaigns known to be volatile and at times personal, the messy divorce between the two will most likely dominate campaigns in the county.

Kavindu and Muthama are currently involved in a court battle over division of property after their messy divorce.

Following Kavindu’s nomination, all eyes are now on UDA to see who they’ll settle on as their candidate in the Machakos senatorial race.

Meanwhile, the Maendeleo Chap Chap party under the leadership of Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua recently unveiled former cabinet minister Mutua Katuku as its candidate in the race.

IEBC will clear candidates interested in the seat on January 18, 2021.
