  • Kyle McCarter has resigned as Ambassador following the defeat of Donald Trump in November elections.
  • He served only two years as US Ambassador in Kenya.

US Ambassador to Kenya Kyle McCarter has resigned, following the end of US President Donald Trump’s tenure on January 20, 2021.

The envoy will be leaving office on January 20, 2021, as the US prepares to swear in Joe Biden as President.

“As I reflect on my time as Ambassador, I continue to believe that Kenya should no longer be just a beneficiary of foreign aid, but a benefactor to the rest of East Africa,” he wrote in a farewell letter on Friday.

McCarter's resignation comes just two years since his confirmation when he replaced Bob Godec, who had served an unprecedented six years as US envoy to Kenya.

During his tenure, Kenya started negotiations with the US for a bilateral trade agreement.
