The widow and son to former Matungu Member of Parliament the late Justus Murunga have suffered a setback in their bid to replace the latter after IEBC rejected their election documents.
While clearing candidates on Monday, IEBC observed that the late Murunga’s widow Christabel Amunga did not have all the required documentation.
“Mrs Murunga didn’t have all the required papers including her supporters list, which she was to present in a Microsoft Excel form. We have agreed she will come later with all the papers,” Matungu constituency Returning Officer John Kirui told the local daily.
Regarding Eugene Murunga Ambwere; son to late Murunga, Kirui noted that he was not cleared because one of his proposers is a registered member of the Jubilee Party.

According to the IEBC nomination rules for independent candidates, each aspirant must have two proposers who are not affiliated to any political party.
Ambwere also failed to meet the required threshold of having at least 1,000 supporters before being cleared to run as an independent candidate. During the clearance exercise, he had only managed 985 supporters.
Meanwhile, IEBC Cleared United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Alex Lanya and ANC’s Peter Nabulindo for the Matungu race.
In Kabuchai, IEBC gave the green light to Gasper Wafubwa (independent), Kalasinga (Ford Kenya), and Peter Kapanga (independent).
