Garissa County Assembly is currently on fire.

In an update on Thursday morning, Red Cross says efforts are underway to put it out.

The cause of the fire is unknown.

County officials say they've managed to secure most of the documents stored in the assembly.

According to the Garissa County Assembly Minority Leader Mohamed Ali, the fire has gutted down about 40-50% of the assembly.

“At the moment we cannot ascertain the cause of the fire. But it has destroyed 40-50% of the County Assembly. The County Assembly chambers and a whole building that hosted almost 25 departmental committees and relevant offices are almost completely destroyed,” Ali said.
