  • Wiper party leaders visited Mike Sonko at Gigiri police station.
  • This set speculation that Sonko had been freed forcing Senator Ledama Olekina to speak on the issue.

Reports circulating on social media that former governor Mike Sonko was freed have been rubbished by Narok Senator Ledama Olekina.

Photos shared online showed Sonko with Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Senator Mutula Kilonzo, MP Dan Maanzo and others at the Gigiri police station.

But Ledama clarified that Sonko is not a free man yet as he encouraged the former Nairobi governor to hang on since his bail hasn't been set yet.

"@MikeSonko don’t worry bro soldier on! Whoever is posting that Sonko has been release is simply trying to look for brownie points! Sonko is still Locked up!," Ledama said.

Kalonzo pleads with Uhuru

Last week Mr Musyoka has pleaded with President Uhuru Kenyatta to forgive Sonko for abusing him.

Speaking on Thursday at Kabarak Nakuru County during the remembrance service of the late Daniel Toroitich arap Moi, Kalonzo promised to mentor Sonko once he was done with his drama.

"Mheshimiwa rais nakuomba uniachie huyo kijana wetu anaitwa Mike Mbuvi Sonko amekutusi sana. Tunaomba msamaha. Akimaliza hizi episodes we will yet mentor him. Usiyashikilie hayo maneno," he requested the Head of State.

Sonko has been in police custody since Monday last week after he appeared at the directorate of criminal investigations (DCI) to record a statement.
