At least one person died on Sunday morning as youth clashed at Kenol, Murang’a County ahead of a visit by the Deputy President William Ruto.
Murang'a South Deputy County Commander Mawira Mungania confirmed to the media that one person had died in the confrontations that have now been linked to Women Representative Sabina Chege.
DP Ruto was in the region on Sunday. He attended a church service at AIPCA Kenol where he also presided over a fundraiser.
He was accompanied by area MP Alice Wahome, Ndindi Nyoro, Kimani Ichung'wa former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama and other leaders from the region.
Earlier in the day, Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria through his social media condemned Murang'a Women Rep Sabina Chege after a woman injured in the confrontation said she had been paid to cause chaos at the event.
According to the woman, Sabina Chege had hired several youth to cause a confrontation and were to be paid Ksh1,000 at the end of the day.
"Shame on you Sabina Wanjiru Chege and your masters. Why not send your daughter to cause violence? Why misuse this innocent girl?" Moses Kuria wrote on his social media. He shared a video of the woman being grilled while bleeding from her head.
During the church service, the leadership under Bishop Stephen Ng'ang'a pledged their commitment to supporting the deputy president as he seeks to succeed president Kenyatta in 2022.
