  • Jubillee and KANU leaders came at loggerheads at the assembly over the contentious Bill

Chaos erupted at the Baringo County Assembly as Jubilee and KANU party MCAs clashed over Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) Bill.

The MCAs were debating the BBI Bill before chaos broke out between the two factions.

In Homa Bay Members of the county assembly unanimously passed the BBI Bill 2020 Constitutional Amendment Bill 2020, after Siaya and Kisumu.

MCAs in Homa Bay unanimously passed the bill which was tabled by Justice and Legal Affairs Committee Chairman Ajimba Ayieta and seconded by nominated Member of County Assembly Kevin Onyango.

Almost all the county assemblies in Nyanza are expected to pass the Bill since the region is the political backyard of ODM leader Raila Odinga.

BBI In Counties

Speaking in Kisumu over the weekend Raila urged the MCAs to pass the BBI Bill for a better Kenya.

The BBI Bii gives more resources to the County Governments and will introduce a Ward Development Fund for MCA’s.

It further seeks to increase funding for the counties from the current 15 percent to 35 percent.

Most county assemblies countrywide including in Nairobi, Kisii, and others have embarked on seeking public participation ahead of the debate.

For the constitutional amendment to be subjected to a referendum, at least 24 Counties are required to approve it before it is sent to Parliament.
