A Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) patrol aircraft crashed in Nanyuki, Laikipia County on Thursday evening killing two people, the pilot, and a passenger. 

According to the statement released by KWS, the two-seater Husky aircraft with registration number 5Y-KWL crashed immediately after take-off from Nanyuki Civil Airport.

“The aircraft which is under the National Air Support Department had just completed a routine patrol at Solio Rhino Sanctuary and was enroute to Meru National Park,” the statement reads.

The KWS team in collaboration with Mountain Rescue are on the ground for evacuation operations. 

"The cause of the crash is yet to be established but investigations are underway," the statement adds.
