Moi Girls High School, Eldoret, has been closed indefinitely following demonstrations on Wednesday morning.
The students boycotted classes accusing principal, Christine Chumba, of reintroducing corporal punishment, mistreating subordinate staff, and serving them a poor diet.
In the litany of their complaints, the students claimed that Chumba had not only closed the school canteen but also removed from their diet, eggs, meat, and sukuma wiki.
According to the students, their new diet consisted primarily of ugali and cabbage.
The decision to sent the students home was reached at a meeting held in the school on Wednesday in which the Uasin Gishu County Director of Education Gitonga Mbaka, the school’s Board of Management, and principal attended.
The students have until tomorrow to vacate the institution.
