  • The man has since pleaded guilty to the charges leveled against him.
  • He is accused of attempting extort money from the senator's lover.

The man at the center of leaking a viral video of Lamu Senator Anwar Loitiptip has been charged.

In a viral video, the Senator is seen smoking shisha in the company of a woman identified as Aeedah Bambi.

Jones Ochieng Mbolo, who appeared before a Nairobi court on Wednesday, pleaded guilty to the charges against him.

Mbolo said he recorded the video because shisha smoking is illegal in the country; hence he felt the Senator should be a role model to Kenyans.

Mbolo, according to court papers, was charged with attempting to extort money from the woman in the video, Aeedah ‘Bambi’ Persian Ahmed.

The court heard that he allegedly threatened Aeedah that he would expose on social media platforms the video taken of her contravening the law by smoking shisha.

The case in which Senator Loitiptip is listed as one of the witnesses, as mentioned before Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku.

The court set March 3, 2021, as the date for sentencing.

This comes as Loitiptip faces accusations of assaulting Saumu Mbuvi, the daughter of former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.

In a series of Instagram posts, Mbuvi shared how the Senator assaulted her. She shared photos of her bruised face. Loitiptip is yet to comment on the matter.
