Acting Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu has appointed a three-judge bench to listen to cases filed against Nairobi Deputy Governor Anne Kananu Mwenda.

The three judge-bench will be under the leadership of Justice Said Chitembwe with the other two members being; Weldon Korir and Wilfrida Okwany.

The case is set to be mentioned on February 25 at a virtual hearing.

All the cases filed against Kananu have been consolidated and will be heard as one petition.

While consolidating the cases, Justice Antony Mrima noted that listening to one consolidated case provides an opportunity for everyone to be heard and also saves time.

“In order to foster an orderly conduct of all these related matters and given the limited judicial time coupled with the need to accord each party an opportunity to be heard, I am of the position that all these matters be consolidated,” said the judge.

Early this year, Anne Kananu made headlines after she was vetted and cleared by the Nairobi County Assembly in a record three hours, after which she was sworn-in the same day before the 2 pm deadline provided in the Constitution.
