A police recruit has died while undertaking a physical examination in Webuye West, Bungoma county.

The recruit identified as Dennis Mukhebi collapsed while doing push-ups during the recruitment exercise at the Bokoli Secondary School.

Efforts by paramedics to revive him failed after he was pronounced dead at the Bokoli Subcounty Hospital where he was rushed for further treatment.

Reports indicate that the recruit had undergone the initial stages successfully without any trouble. He collapsed during the push-ups stage.

The incident has been confirmed by the deputy regional police commander, Dennid Ngetich who was overseeing the exercise

“The doctors tried their best to assist him but sadly we lost him."

Mukhebi, an engineering student at NYS college, Nairobi, is said to have tried joining the police force for several years without success.

Mukhebi's relatives revealed that last week, he tried his luck during the KDF recruitment last week.

Bungoma West sub-county only recruited 12 applicants from thousands who turned up.
