Governor Anne Waiguru has lauded Members of the Kirinyaga County Assembly for unanimously passing the BBI Constitutional Amendment Bill.
Addressing the media shortly after the MCAs passed the Bill, Waiguru noted that Kirinyaga and other Mt Kenya counties had proved that they are firmly behind President Uhuru Kenyatta.
She noted that according to the voting patterns, it is clear that Mt Kenya will always support one of their own.
“People have seen Mt Kenya voting as one block, Kirinyiga has voted unanimously, other counties have voted unanimously. I said it before, I’ll say it again, you can rent a Kikuyu, but you cannot buy a Kikuyu, bottom line, they will still vote for their own people, they know what is good for the region and will stand with the region,” she said.
Meanwhile, Over 24 counties have voted for the BBI Bill giving it the green light to proceed to the next stage.
The Bill will now be forwarded to Parliament and Senate for a debate after which it will be subjected to a vote. A simple majority is required for the Bill to proceed to the referendum stage.
Some of the counties that passed the BBI Bill today include; Murang’a, Nyandarua, Nyamira, Kirinyaga, Nakura, Mombasa, Makueni, Machakos and Narok among others.
