Education CS George Magoha has announced the reopening of schools for Grade 4, Class 8, and Form Four learners on Monday, 12 October, 2020

Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has announced the reopening of schools next week.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, CS Magoha announced that pupils in Grade 4 and Class 8 together with students in Form Four will resume classes on Monday, 12 October 2020.

Learners who are expected to sit for their KCPE and KCSE exams will close school for one week on December 24 and resume learning on January 1, 2021.

The Third term will commence on January 4, 2021, and end on March 19.

Class 8 pupils will sit for their KCPE exams on March 22, 2021, and write their last paper on 24 of the same month.

Form 4 students will begin their KCSE exams on March 25 and sit for their final paper on April 16 2021.

Tight Schedule

According to a statement by CS Magoha, KCSE exams will be marked for a duration of three weeks from April 19, 2021, and finalized by May 7 2021.

This comes after the Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) asked the Ministry of Education to release the school calendar while the Kenya Post Primary Teachers Union (Kuppet) said children should be back in class as soon as possible.

There will be no mandatory testing for teachers and learners before the reopening of schools despite the rise in Covid-19 cases in rural counties.

Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang said the ministry would not supply testing kits because it would be too expensive.
