Nairobi Hospital CEO and the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission have been directed by the courts to produce former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko.

On Tuesday the courts directed that Mr. Sonko be presented before it n Thursday Marc 4 2021, for the hearing of the Sh14m graft case.

A similar directive had been issued on Monday to the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit after Sonko failed to show up in court.

Last week Sonko's doctor told the court that Sonko needs an urgent hip replacement surgery provided in South Africa.

Dr. Esther Wekesa from Kenyatta National Hospital said Sonko had developed severe arthritis, thus the need for urgent surgery to replace his hip.

Medical Attention

She explained to the court that the country has one of the best specialists in such cases; Dr Robert Van Der Plank who has accepted to handle Sonko’s case.

According to her, Dr Plank is not open to travelling to Kenya, thus the decision to request Sonko’s leave to seek treatment in South Africa.

"I have spoken with Dr Plank on phone and email about taking up the case but he has not been to Kenya in the last 2 years and says he won't be coming anytime soon," Dr Wekesa said.

The ex-governor has been in the hospital for two weeks now. He was admitted early this month while in custody following his arrest over claims of violence, destruction of property, and terror-related changes.
