Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai ordered former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa to surrender to authorities before 1pm pon Friday
The IG of police warned leaders of dire consequences when they break the law after Echesa was caught on video slapping an IEBC official.
Police officers have also seized guns from leaders and suspended their licences over misuse.
On Thursday during the Matungu by-election, Echesa claimed that a UDA party agent had been evicted from the polling station in unclear circumstances.
“Our agents are outside the polling station, my friend. You cannot chase our agents outside. Why are you chasing them outside? Uliambiwa by who?” Echesa asked before slapping the election official.
After the incident went viral on social media, IEBC called for the arrest of the former CS with Chairperson Wafula Chebukati condemning Echesa's actions.
“We condemn the violence witnessed in Matungu where one of our officials was slapped by a former CS and we want police to apprehend this suspect,” Chebukati said.
