ODM Leader Raila Odinga's aide has accused party Secretary General Edwin Sifuna of rushing to settle on the party's candidate.

ODM Leader Raila Odinga has disowned his application for the party's presidential ticket.

His personal assistant Denis Onyango stated that the former premier's application for the ODM ticket was the work of "overzealous staff" within the party.

"He insists on not stating his position until after the BBI agenda is finished. Some people in the party think time is running out and may have been behind the name coming up as one of the applicants," Onyango stated.

He pointed an accusing finger at the party secretariat through Secretary General Edwin Sifuna for rushing the party's decision on its presidential candidate.

"the former Prime Minister told Sifuna and Mumma to put out a straight statement that what they put out was erroneous. That they have since established that Raila did not apply and leave it there. He and Mumma thought otherwise. They are in a hurry to get a candidate. They think time is running out. Raila thinks otherwise," Onyango clarified.

Sifuna on April 2, issued an announcement stating that the application by the former Prime Minister was an April 1 Fools Day prank.

However, reports have since emerged that President Uhuru Kenyatta intervened to have the ODM Leader change his mind for the time being.

Daily Nation on April 3 reported that ODM insiders had revealed that Odinga did apply for the party's ticket, however, the official statement would follow the day after to avoid locking out those who had not applied as of the party's March 31 deadline.
