The wife of a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer who died under mysterious circumstances in Kahawa Wendani is in police custody.

Police have arrested the wife of a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer who died under mysterious circumstances at a house in Kahawa Wendani.

Reports indicate that prior to his death, the officer Daniel Omollo Onyango doubted the means with which his wife, musician Violet Asale rented out a studio in Roysambu, Nairobi.

It is said the 37-year-old soldier suspected that someone else was covering the studio's rent for his wife.

Onyango left his Gilgil base for Nairobi to ascertain the existence of the studio.

It is that evening that a fight broke out between him and the wife after which he died.

Asale revealed that Onyango refused to eat the food that was served to him and did not talk to his family.

The fight is said to have started minutes past midnight Sunday, April 4.

Reports indicate that the KDF soldier had bite marks on his chest and injuries on his hands while the wife had injuries on his shoulders.

Asale states that he had tried to suffocate her and she was defending herself.

"He wasn’t stabbed and he doesn’t even have a stab wound. My husband fainted. During the scuffle, I freed myself and left him in the bedroom.

"When he gets angry he likes throwing things in the house and self-harming. After like five minutes, he called out saying he was having difficulty breathing. He started holding his stomach, I don’t know where he hit himself," Asale was quoted as saying.

She told the police that Onyango is her ex-husband and the father of her child.

Police established that the officer had survived a serious road accident and landmine explosion as they gathered records on his medical background.

Asale's relatives who were at the house have also been taken in for questioning.

Onyango's body was moved to the Kenya Defense Forces Memorial Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem.
