  • The media fraternity in Kenya is mourning the death of one of their own who was shot dead on Wednesday night.

Kenya Broadcasting Corporation journalist and video editor Betty Barasa Mutekhele was shot dead in her home by suspected burglars.

The Wednesday night incident has left many of her colleagues shocked while investigations are ongoing to flush out the criminals.

Mutekhele was shot after an ambush by the thugs who waylaid her at her gate when she was getting home.

Reports indicate that they forced their way in and entered her home where they ordered the family to lie down and demanded money.

Detectives were sent from the DCI headquarters to join their Ngong counterparts to probe into the murder.

Journalists Killed

The media council of Kenya condemned the killing and called for speedy investigations into the murder of Ms Barasa.

In 2020 a radio journalist was killed in Nairobi’s Kibra slum, as the world marked World Press Freedom Day.

Mohammed Marjan who worked for Pamoja FM as a presenter was stabbed to death while headed to work in the morning.

Adam Hussein, the radio station founder condemned the killing of Marjan adding that he was working on a program that was to run during the Ramadhan period.

Kilimani Police boss Lucas Oigara called for calm after residents went on a rampage demanding justice for Marjan. He assured the public that detectives will use CCTV footage to get the killers.
