Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has appealed to President Uhuru Kenyatta to put a halt to house demolitions in Nairobi.

In a video shared on April 10, 2021, the legislator urged the Head of State to consider the economic turmoil in the country and halt the evictions.

He referenced the recent demolitions in Nairobi's Njiru estates that has left thousands of families homeless.

"I would like to say people are hurting, and ask our President, Uhuru Kenyatta to come to the rescue of those affected by the demolitions.

"In Kware and Njiru, people are suffering. Houses have been demolished. There are heavy rains, there is Covid-19 and their houses are being demolished," Babu stated.

"Order the agencies responsible for the demolitions to stop forthwith. There is a lot of anguish amongst the populous staying at Kware and Njiru," he pleaded.

The first time MP urged the Head of State to take into consideration the negative toll the Covid-19 pandemic has taken on the economy and health of the country.

He argued that a number of people living in those areas have lost their jobs and have nowhere to go.

Babu further asked that those who had put up houses recently and even previously be compensated as to facilitate their lives going forward.

"Take it in your heart as President of the Republic of Kenya and stop these demolitions," he pleaded.
