Irate Narok residents blocked the Nairobi-Kisii Highway while protesting police harassment in the region during curfew hours.
Businesses in Narok Town came to a standstill as the residents raised concerns over how the police are treating members of the public.
They barricaded the Narok-Mai Mahiu road with stones, also setting fire in the middle of the road.
The protest lasted well over two hours before law enforcement managed to restore order.
They alleged that the police have been arresting people for flouting the curfew, only to release them after parting with Ksh3,000.
The residents engaged the police in running battles, at some point appearing to overpower the police who called for backup.
It allegedly started at an eatery where police confronted some revelers to wear face masks. That is when irate residents voiced their concerns.
The protests caused a major traffic snarl-up along the busy road.
Police advised members of the public to adhere to the Covid-19 containment measures issued by the government.
