A Wasili cab operator and a county askari from Nakuru County are nursing injuries after a vehicle they were in rolled along the Nakuru- Nairobi Highway, following a scuffle over a parking ticket.

According to area police boss Phanton Analo, the accident occurred while a group of three county askaris tried arresting the cab driver identified as Richard Gichuki over failure to pay parking fees.

The askaris reportedly entered Gichuki’s car and ordered him to drive towards Nakuru town, but he allegedly tried speeding off in the opposite direction.

It is at this point that one of the officers attempted arresting him leading to a commotion that saw the vehicle veer off the road and overturned.

According to the police boss, Gichuki’s right hand finger was injured during the accident while one of the officers got bruises and cuts in both hands.

Both have currently been discharged from hospital even as police investigate further.

Giving his side of the story, Gichuki blamed the county askaris for causing the accident. According to him, one of the officers forcefully held onto the steering wheel and later stepped on the accelerator pedal forcing the car to speed off, thus causing the accident.

He appealed for change tact when dealing with parking fee defaulters, adding that the askaris should follow the law at all times instead of using force to intimidate cab drivers.

He urged the officers to follow the law and lawfully deal with parking fee defaulters instead of harassing them.
