  • A 17-year-old who just concluded his KCSE exams has been apprehended for allegedly stealing Ksh331,000 from a police officer.

Prosecutors have charged a Form 4 student Gideon Rotich who stole Ksh331,000 from a police officer's Sacco.

According to court papers, the 17-year-old built himself a house with the money he stole from the officer.

The police officer identified as Nicholas Koech based in Garissa county was shocked after attempting to withdraw money from his account only to find out he had a balance of Ksh5,000.

After reporting the matter to the police Sacco, Mr. Koech discovered that an unknown number had been used to withdraw the funds from his account.

Gideon Rotich who sat for the KCSE exam in 2021 was charged at Milimani Law Courts with one count of stealing.

In 2017 Alex Mutuku an IT expert was charged with hacking into Kenya's Revenue Authority and stealing $3,900,000,000.

Mutuku was accused of electronic fraud but denied any wrongdoing. The prosecution claimed he was part of an international network stealing money from several state bodies.

According to court documents, there is a ring involving expatriates from the United States and other countries, along with police officers and civil servants.
