  • A court has made a ruling on whether MCAs should proceed with the impeachment motion against a governor.

A Meru Court has temporarily barred the impeachment debate of Wajir Governor Mohammed Abdi.

Wajir County Assembly was set to begin the impeachment debate on Tuesday but the court has stopped the love until the hearing of a case filed.

Last week MCAs filed a notice of motion at the county assembly to impeach governor Abdi over allegations of gross misconduct.

He was accused of ignoring the agreement they had with him when they dropped the first motion of impeachment they had filed against him.

The Ward Representatives accused Governor Abdi of failing to provide quarterly expenditure reports to the county assembly as required by the Public Finance Management Act.

Additionally, MCAs said the Abdi's administration failed to release over kSh70 million intended for operations of the county assembly.

In 2020, governor Abdi faced impeachment after MCAs accused him of corruption, gross misconduct, and abuse of office.

Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) froze accounts claimed to belong to his nephew in a corruption purge in 2019.

According to EACC, a graft ring involving family members at the county conspired to defraud Ksh26 million in the purchase of two luxury vehicles for the county.

However, only one second-hand vehicle was acquired at an exaggerated amount and a balance of Ksh12 million was allegedly redirected to a spouse’s account.
