President Uhuru Kenyatta has nominated former IEBC director Immaculate Kassait as Data Commissioner at the Communication Authority (CA) Kenya.

The former IEBC director of voter registration and election operations is the wife of Tiaty MP William Kassait Kamket.

Kamket is elected on a KANU ticket, a party now affiliated with the Jubilee Coalition.

Mrs Kassait has been picked from ten contenders for the newly created position at CA Kenya.

The authority's interim Director General Mercy Wanjau who served previously as legal services director was among those eyeing the position.

Others included KeMu Deputy Vice-Chancellor David Gichoya, and ICT Authority deputy director Thomas Odhiambo.

Mrs Kassait is a lawyer by profession. Just like her husband, she obtained her undergraduate degree from Makerere University in 2002. The two are blessed with 2 boys and two girls.

In the mid 90s, while Mrs Kassait was undertaking a diploma in legal services at the Kenya Institute of Professional Studies, her husband was at KIMC training as a journalist.

Currently, she holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration attained in 2015 at USIU. If approved, Mrs Kassait will be overseeing the implementation and enforcement of the Data Protection Act.

The Data Protection Act was assented into law by President Uhuru Kenyatta in November 2019.
