  • According to Kuria, after voting yes, the MPS visited a senior parliamentary leader and received the cash.

Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria has alleged that some legislators were bribed to pass the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) Bill that seeks to amend the Constitution.

In a post on his Facebook page, Kuria noted that after voting yes, the legislators received Sh100,000 each.

He, however, did not mention names or provide any evidence backing his claim.

“MPs voting yes currently receiving their 100K from the office of a senior parliamentary leader,” he posted on his Facebook page.

Meanwhile, the National Assembly on Thursday passed the BBI Bill after a majority of members voted in support of the Constitutional Amendment push.

During the third reading, 224 legislators voted in support of the Bill, 63 rejected it and two abstained from the vote.

As expected, leaders allied to the handshake team supported the Bill while those allied to Deputy President William Ruto opposed the push.

According to those who passed the Bill, BBI will bring more development to the country as devolved units will receive more cash, they also argued that Kenyans will have better representation and the youth will be catered for if the Bill is passed and adopted by Kenyans.

On their part, those opposed to the Bill noted that there are other important issues that need to be addressed in the country other than amending the Constitution.

All eyes are now on the Senate as it is set to vote on the BBI next week.
