  • The MP said while others were being offered Sh100,000, he was offered Sh500,000 to vote in support of the Bill despite having been one of its sharp critics.

Soy Member of Parliament Caleb Kositany has sensationally claimed that he was offered Sh500,000 to vote in support of the BBI Bill during last week’s voting at the National Assembly.

In an interview on Monday, Kositany claimed that he was approached by members and given the offer, but declined and voted against the bill.

He, however, did not reveal the identity of the member who approached him and what role he held in Parliament if any.

“I was offered Sh500,000 of which I declined, I think Sh500,000 with my conscience I would not allow,” Kositany said

“As the discussion was going on within the chambers, there were members going around and I was approached…The desperation by the ‘yes team’ to have the bill passed was very evident, they were not sure of their numbers. As team that was branded Tanga Tanga, BBI was never part of the initiative,” he added.

Reacting to Kositany’s sensational claim, Jubilee Parliamentary Group Secretary Adan Keynan noted that at no point was any legislator offered money to pass the bill.

He further noted that Kositant should be held accountable for the claim since it is weight and has not been substantiated.

“Caleb Kositany being offered money should be held accountable to his statement. Being one of the organizers of making sure the bill was passed, money offered to MPs is corruption of the highest order and did not happen,” Keynan said.

Meanwhile, Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria also claimed that legislators were paid to pass the BBI Bill.

According to Kuria, those who voted yes for the bill were offered Sh100,000
