  • Orengo meets Raila amid wrangles within the ODM Party. The Siaya Senator had been dared by ODM MPs to dare vote against the BBI when the bill is presented in the Senate.

Siaya Senator James Orengo together with Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu and her Kakamega counterpart Wycliffe Oparanya met with ODM leader Raila Odinga.

On Monday pictures of the four were shared online via Raila's Twitter account confirming the meeting stating that he had hosted them for brunch.

"I had a great chat this morning with Governor @mamangilu and @GovWOparanya together with Senator @orengo_james whom I hosted for brunch. Thanks for dropping by," Raila said.

Orengo confirmed the meeting via Twitter noting that the conversation was refreshing amid wrangles inside the ODM Party with some of his nemesis challenging him to leave the party.

The Siaya Senator has been challenged by a section of ODM MPs to vote against the BBI following his sentiments in the Senate where he warned that he will not be comprised to vote a particular way for the constitution amendment.

MPs led by Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi dared the Siaya Senator to subvert the directives given by the party on the BBI bill. He challenged Orengo to vote against the bill at the Senate.

"The most important thing for us as people of Siaya County and the greater Nyanza region is to rally behind our leader. Let me emphasise that we have only one leader and that is none other than, Raila Odinga. It's a question of choice, either you are with us or not.

"There is no debate about that. Once he has given us direction just like he has done, then we have no choice but to support it just like we did at the National Assembly," Wandayi stated.

The Senator had vowed to carry out his duties in the Upper House without being influenced by outside forces and warned his political critics.

“I can never be intimidated in my political life because I have seen powerful people come and go, I have seen Presidents come and go,” Orengo said.

“If my day comes I will accept it, but my conscience, the way I was brought up I can never sell it, I would never,” he added.
